End of a Long Week

"Braided Burgundy"--Friday, 11/11/16

Another Loft sweater sale purchase was this lightweight, elbow-length-sleeved peplum sweater that pretty much functions like a knit top.  Worn on its own, it's not the most flattering thing because it hangs wide and straight from the bust with no waist definition, but I like how it looks layered underneath a blazer when the volume is contained--the peplum detail makes it a lot more interesting-looking than a plain white t-shirt, especially noticeable when I am wearing a necklace rather than a flowing scarf, so there is a long expanse of top showing in the middle.  Plus the loose fit is a real winner in terms of comfort.  As a bonus, I got a compliment on my outfit today, which is nice.

*Cream peplum pullover sweater (Loft), $27.25/wear
Braided pearl necklace (Loft), $21.53/wear
Burgundy tipped blazer (JNY), $9.08/wear
Skinny jeans (JCP), $0.56/wear
Leopard flats (Nordstrom), $2.17/wear

Outfit total: $60.59/wear

Here is a better view of the messy-pearls necklace.  And yep, it's almost the middle of November and I'm still wearing flats with bare feet--it's been a remarkably warm fall so far.  I'm not complaining, though.  We all know the cold weather is coming.

Something about the clean lines of the dark blazer against the light sweater put me in mind of a Dutch rabbit, always snazzy, always correct.

Alert to the possibilities of the weekend

In other news...FRIDAY!  I had a long meeting today (9-4) and an on-and-off headache, but it actually worked out pretty well because it meant that I was looking at a computer screen projected at a bit of a distance and not staring at an Excel spreadsheet or something equally eye-fatiguing on my own computer.

This evening Robert and I finally watched Pride and Prejudice with Keira Knightley--it was good!  I somehow dislike Keira Knightley conceptually but I almost always like her in whatever movie she's in.  Of course, one of the pleasures of watching such a movie is playing 50 British Actors (and some American actors, too).

That is my favorite version of "Pride and Prejudice" so far. (Colin Firth is just too good looking to hate him as much as we're supposed to.) But in this version, I genuinely didn't like Mr. Darby at first and I genuinely did like him later.

Yes, I agree about Mr. Darcy (though I am very willing to adore Colin Firth throughout). His horrible haircut definitely helped in those cold early scenes also. Did you find Keira Knightley appropriate as Lizzie, in terms of appearance and otherwise?

I did find Keira Knightly appropriate. However, the oldest sister should have been a lot better looking!

I think Rosamund Pike is quite lovely but it's hard to get a lot better looking than Keira Knightly.

I think she looks good but not in a stereotypical/classic way. So you could get a more classical beauty for the other role.

I'm such a sucker for period movies but I loved that version of Pride and Prejudice too!

I'm glad I finally saw it...10 years late. Although that's not so bad for me.
