Dental Appointment and Disappointment

"She Wore Blue...Trousers"--Thursday, 9/1/16

On Pinterest, I found this 3 year old Reverse Inspiration photo from a defunct blog.  Bright blue skinny pants and dot top are key components of my outfit, too.

Specifically, these bright blue pants that I found at Goodwill in July.  These pants were kind of funny--they had the right size on the label but looked too small, so I almost didn't try them on.  But I've been wanting a pair of bright blue pants so I decided WTF, I'll give them a shot.  And when I put them on, I discovered that they have a lot of stretch to them, so they fit just right.  Bravery in the dressing room for the win!

Blue/pink/white circles top (Nordstrom), $9.75/wear
*Blue skinny pants (thrifted, Macy's), $8.99/wear
White blazer (Nordstrom), $3.54/wear
Pink striped flats (Payless), $1.60/wear
Pink drops necklace (Outfit Additions), $1.73/wear

Outfit total: $25.61/wear

When I came into the front of the house to photograph this outfit, I showed my new pants to Robert and said, Bright, aren't they?  And he started to sing, She wore blue....trousers.....

These trousers are seriously blue.  I enjoyed wearing them with this blue patterned top for a slightly jazzed-up column of color effect, highlighting the white and pink in the pattern with the blazer and necklace.  And in case any outfit with bright blue pants can be too tame, I added a bit of remote pattern mixing with the striped ballet flats.  I typically wear this shirt with a significant amount of pink, so it was good to take things in a less-pink, more-blue-and-white direction this time.  Strangely enough, this evening I saw this blog post in which a blogger's little girl picked her outfit, including this same shirt.

...And here is a bathing white mini lop, brightening up a photograph of dark rabbits.

In other news...Tam sent this article about a failure to replicate another classic social psychology finding--that smiling or frowning itself changes your mood.  But after reading how terrible the methodology was in the recent attempt to replicate the ego depletion effect, I'm not sure how to interpret this.  The journalist who wrote about the ego depletion work completely missed the fact that the tasks involved in the depletion condition were not actually depleting (as even more egregiously did the researchers).  What aspects of the methodology here were screwed up or not implemented with fidelity in all labs or whatever?

In more science news...Robert sent this article about a French-speaking (naturellement) physics-paper-publishing cat.

It makes me think about how good Leo would have been as a reviewer for academic articles.  He'd pick them up in his mouth and toss them across the room, one after another.  His amanuensis would write back to each person:  "Dear Author, your paper has been Disapproved.  Leopold Rex."

I thought this comic was even funnier given the "We look upon the image of a king" KXCD comic and the knowledge that the pictured rabbit is a mini rex.

I went to the dentist this afternoon and I have been referred to a periodonist to excise and biopsy this thing on my gum.  She thinks it's a not uncommon situation where I injured the gum (poked it or whatever) and a tumor grew there sort of out of control (but they have to biopsy to be careful).  I also have an infection, but it is limited to the gum (not the tooth) and localized (not likely to spread).  So there is not a root canal in my future.

This situation wouldn't be so bad except my insurance network has only 2 periodontists and they are booked until the end of the month.  (Yes, it is currently the 1st of the month.)  So the scheduler at my dentist's office is going to try some out of network options tomorrow morning and see what we can do.  In the meantime, I will continue to wash my mouth with warm saltwater (as suggested by Dr. Mom, who is always right) and be careful brushing and try not to be too grossed out by it.  Luckily it isn't hurting--it's a bit tender and vaguely uncomfortable (in that way of having the pressure of a bump) but not painful even when prodded.  (I do not prod it but the dentist did.)

Good luck at the peridontist. Do you need to take antibiotics for it?
