Check Mate

...Where Mate Equals Green--Thursday, 6/4/15

It's weird how I'll see an outfit, of which I have no similar pieces, and it will spark the idea for an entirely different outfit.  That's what happened when I saw this one.

From dresscorilynn.com

There's black and white check print, there's the color orange--that's pretty much all these outfits have in common.  Nonetheless, I am grateful to Corilynn for giving me the inspiration to put together some items in my closet in a way that I might not have come up with on my own because I loved the final result.

*Black and white check zipper jacket (JNY)+, $19.75/wear
Black short-sleeved T (Target)+, $3.50/wear
Orange/green floral scarf (Target)+, $6.00/wear
Green pants (JCP), $5.86/wear
Black pointy-toed flats (Nordstrom), $3.75/wear

I don't wear this scarf as much as I do some of my others, but its light weight and colorful Hawaiian style print are perfect for the summer.

What's perfect for all seasons of the year?  A bunny calendar!  The photo for March was very strange--that little bunny on the left is so tiny that he looks like just a head on the ground.  A disapproving head.

Down to the left is the long-ish hallway from the front door.  Behind me is the kitchen, and to the right is the living room.  The open door on the right edge of the photo gives access to the washer and dryer.

And do you see that funky 70s style bright orange-red piggy bank with the teal accents?  I've had that thing forever.  Mom, you remember that one?

In other news...I woke up in the middle of the night on Tues/Wed with the most intense, sharp pain in my neck and shoulder.  It took me several minutes to sit up and I was sobbing uncontrollably the whole time.  Robert helped me set up in my recliner with pillows to brace my neck.  By the time he left for work, I had gained enough mobility to do basic things like go to the bathroom, refill my tea glass, etc., albeit painfully.  By nighttime, I was able to lift my arm high enough to touch my head, so I took a shower and washed my hair, which wasn't too bad.  I went to bed and slept OK, though I woke up at 5:30 a.m. again with the sun.  I was feeling a deep achy soreness this morning, but the shooting pains were gone and my arm and neck were back to about 80% of full mobility.  Then I had to back my car out of its tricky parking space and the necessary movement of my neck from side to side brought the bad pain back for about an hour.  But even after a full day sitting in front of my computer at work, it's down to a low level ache now.  I'm hoping to be back to 95% of normal tomorrow.

So I spent the entire day yesterday, from about 3:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., sitting in my recliner watching Netflix.  For those of who cannot take any pain medication stronger than Tylenol (waaaah), distracting TV is the opiate.

I watched:
-The last two episodes of Luther--a really fun show, if a bloodbath at the end
-The first two series (7 episodes; all that was available on Netflix) of The Bletchley Circle--I liked the first 3 episodes, featuring the character Susan Gray, the best.  50 British Actor Sighting: Julie Graham (who plays Jean, the research librarian) was also in the SF series Survivors.
-The first three episodes of Longmire--I was toward the end of episode 2 when Robert got home and became immediately caught up in the show.  We watched through the third episode, and then I suggested to Robert that we add the show to our "TV we both like and watch while exercising" Netflix Streamling list.
-The Heat--yep, I'm like the last person on the planet to see this movie, which came in the mail on DVD.  It was well-timed, given that I am seeing ads for Spy everywhere right now.

Sally, of course, I remember the piggy bank. The bank we used when you were born gave it to us. It's been around almost as long as you have!

I got to see Spy this weekend. It was so, so great. If you like those Melissa McCarthy vehicles, I highly recommend it.

Oh good...it seemed promising.
