Robert does this too, and it always strikes me as peculiar when I see him do it. Seeing this comic, I was like, Wait, this is a thing? I don't know that he has a preference regarding the resulting shape, however.

I don't do it inadvertently, but when I do have to select and copy things (like when booking an airline ticket and trying to IM someone the flight details), it does bug me when the highlight selection isn't what you'd expect.
Good point, Jen - that's been driving me crazy when highlighting stuff from job listings online.
